WordPress Permalink Setup
- Login to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Select Settings from left sidebar options.
- Click on Permalinks, it will open a new page with permalink settings
- From Permalink settings, select Post name
- Save the settings at the bottom of the screen.
You have various other options, such as
plain ID,
Blogger like structure with Date and post name,
Month and Name of the article
Achieves with numeric Id
You can also use custom structure by clicking the available tags as shown in below picture.
Category Base and Tag Base in the WordPress URL
Another optional feature is, changing of your category name and Tag Name. Let us take an example to change Category to cooking as shown in the above image.
It is recommended, not to touch this feature unless you really required it.
by default the category base is
https://geekchalk.com/category/how-to-guides/
it will be changed to
https://geekchalk.com/tech/how-to-guides/
If your site is covering multiple areas, better to leave this with default options and Click on save.
